Day 1: Arrival in Iceland, Reykjavik & Thingvellir National Park

Arrive in Iceland in the early morning, where you will be met at the airport by your private guide. Your guide will transfer you to your accommodation at Hotel Borg in Reykjavik while explaining the scenery and Icelandic landscape along the way.

Your driver will remain at your disposal for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon, begin your Game of Thrones Iceland Tour with a visit to Thingvellir National Park, one of the first filming locations on this itinerary and the stomping ground of the White Walkers.

At Thingvellir, you will have the opportunity to walk through the impressive rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is also the location of the original Althing, considered one of the oldest democratic parliaments in the world.

Day 2: Reykjavik, Akureyri & Lake Myvatn

Early on your second day, your guide will take you to the domestic airport in Reykjavik for a short 45-minute flight north to Akureyri, Iceland’s second-largest city.

As you arrive, you will fly into Eyjafjordur, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, surrounded by mountains reaching approximately 1,500 meters. The Arctic Circle is only about 60 kilometers north of this point.

From Akureyri, your guide will drive you to the Lake Myvatn region, one of the most important areas for Game of Thrones filming locations in Iceland. Many of the scenes from North of the Wall were filmed in this dramatic landscape.

During the day, you may visit:

  • Godafoss, the Waterfall of the Gods
  • Hofdi, associated with the Milkwater River
  • Kalfastrond, where scenes of the Night’s Watch and Wildlings were filmed
  • Grjotagja Cave, where Jon Snow and Ygritte shared a memorable scene
  • Dimmuborgir, known for its unique lava formations
  • Hverir, with bubbling mud pots and geothermal activity

Your guide will also share Icelandic folklore, including stories of hidden people, trolls, and local legends that add depth to this unforgettable private Iceland tour.

This evening, relax at Hotel Laxa near Lake Myvatn, an area famous for its birdlife and home to more species of ducks than almost anywhere else on earth.

Day 3: Myvatn, Dettifoss, Husavik & Reykjavik

Today, experience the incredible force of Dettifoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls. Often described as “the beast,” Dettifoss offers a dramatic contrast to the beauty of Godafoss.

Your guide will then drive you toward Iceland’s north Atlantic coastline and onward to Husavik, the largest town in northeast Iceland. Husavik is known as the whale capital of Iceland and is also associated with some of the earliest settlement history on the island.

In the afternoon, fly back to Reykjavik and continue by private transfer to Hotel Ranga, a luxury resort located near one of Iceland’s finest salmon rivers, the East-Ranga River.

Hotel Ranga features a gourmet restaurant inspired by modern Nordic cuisine with a Mediterranean twist, using local and seasonal ingredients.

Day 4: Hotel Ranga, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach & South Coast

In the morning, travel south to explore landscapes connected to the Frostfangs and some of Iceland’s most dramatic coastal scenery.

Your route takes you past Solheimajokull, a glacier tongue extending from Myrdalsjokull, Iceland’s fourth-largest glacier. Nearby is Eyjafjallajokull, the famous volcano and glacier known around the world.

Continue to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, one of Iceland’s most iconic natural sites. Here you will see dramatic basalt columns, black volcanic sand, sea stacks, and, depending on the season, puffins nesting above the cliffs.

Your guide will share local legends connected to the rock formations in the area, adding another layer of Icelandic culture to your Game of Thrones Iceland Tour.

For lunch, enjoy a special Nordic-style experience in a unique cave setting, complete with benches and fur throws. This atmospheric stop offers a sense of what it might have felt like to enter a rugged fantasy world, while still enjoying a touch of Icelandic luxury.

During the day, you will also visit two of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls:

  • Seljalandsfoss, where you may walk behind the waterfall
  • Skogafoss, where you can walk close to the falls or climb for a view from above

Return to Hotel Ranga for an early dinner and overnight stay before an early start the following morning.

Day 5: Skaftafell, Fjallsarlon, Jokulsarlon & Reykjavik

Depart early for Skaftafell National Park and the surrounding glacier landscapes. Filming for Game of Thrones took place here in often harsh winter conditions, making this one of the most memorable stops on your private Iceland itinerary.

With the help of crampons and expert guidance, you may have the opportunity to enjoy a light glacier walk on Svinafellsjokull, a calving glacier used as a filming location for scenes North of the Wall in season two.

Approximately 45 minutes from Skaftafell, stop at Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon, followed by a visit to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Here, blue and crystal-clear chunks of ancient ice float toward the sea, creating unforgettable photo opportunities.

Nearby, the ice washes onto the black sand beach, creating one of Iceland’s most striking natural scenes. Jokulsarlon was also used as a filming location for the James Bond movie Die Another Day.

After visiting the glacial lagoons, return to Reykjavik for the night at Hotel Borg.

Day 6: Departure from Iceland

Meet your private driver in the hotel lobby for your transfer to Keflavik International Airport.

Depart Iceland for your home country or continue to your next international destination.
