Explore Hamelin’s historic center with its decorative façades, Renaissance architecture, cobblestone streets, and buildings connected to the Pied Piper story.

According to legend, the Pied Piper arrived in Hamelin in 1284 and offered to rid the town of its rats. After the townspeople refused to pay him, he used his music to lead the town’s children away.

Today, the Pied Piper remains Hamelin’s most famous figure and appears throughout the city in monuments, performances, artwork, shops, and local traditions.

Listen to the glockenspiel at the historic Wedding House and watch its mechanical figures reenact scenes from the legend.

Mother Hulda Pond
